Hi Friends,
We know it’s a holiday weekend and you’re probably standing around a BBQ grill but we just wanted to send out a quick note to let you know that a new 10″, 4-song, EP from Phantom Works, the Ohms EP, will be out on September 15th! You can pre-order it now either here at Invertebrata Records or on Bandcamp and it will ship out on the 15th.
It’s a 4-song EP on black vinyl with a full color insert that’s a bit of a mystery. Also the vinyl comes with a download card so you can listen to it wherever you like. The record is, in my estimation, frickin’ terrific.
Formed in 2008 by Chicago housemates with a list of things to do and a list of things not to do, Phantom Works draws from heavier mid-western and west coast post-punk, as well as their own experimental tendencies, they create a potent, driving, high-energy brew. In 2015, they breached the list of things not to do and added a bass player, one Reg Shrader (Seam, Circus Lupus).
Adding Reg’s bass playing simultaneously provides another weight and momentum to their already massive sound. Drummer Jim Duffy (Lardo) pounds things out at the nucleus, steering the swarm of colliding and intertwining guitars & vocals by Matt Seifert (Cool Devices) & Kris Poulin.
The 4-song Ohms EP, was recorded in the depths of their Chicago hideout and mixed at the San Diego staple, SDRL. It is a call to all people who (should) know better.
